Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your child (3rd -6th grades) will soon be participating in the Spring 2016 administration of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). CAASPP test results provide valuable information about student academic progress. It is extremely important that students do their best when taking these tests.

Parents can play an important role in preparing their child to take the CAASPP tests. To reduce anxieties or fears about these tests, reassure your student that the test results will help them understand what concepts they have mastered and those that they still need to learn. On the night before a testing day, make sure your child gets a good night’s rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and attends school. Last year, California students participated in a field test of the CAASPP ELA and Mathematics computer-based assessments—the purpose of the field test was to test the tests and so student scores were not generated. This year, all students will receive scores for these assessments. EGUSD will use CAASPP scores in a variety of different ways. These scores will allow teachers to chart your child’s progress over the years and are essential tools in helping your student reach their highest academic potential. At the district level, CAASPP scores will be vital in helping administrators track our school’s overall performance. At the state and national levels, state and federal education experts will use CAASPP scores to monitor the overall excellence of the district.

The CAASPP Program includes the following tests that students at our school are to take on the dates listed: ELA and Math Content, ELA and Math Performance Tasks.
